Soluble from calf skin, Type I, Lyophilized. Gamma Irrradiatied
Prepared according to the method of Gallop and Seifter (21).
In the method, fresh calf skin is extracted with 0.5 M NaOAc to remove non-collagen proteins. The soluble collagen is extracted with 0.075 M sodium citrate pH 3.7 and precipitated as fibrils by dialysis against 0.02 M Na2HPO4.
Soluble in 0.01 M to 0.5 M acetic acid, maximum 10 mg/ml.
Soluble calf skin collagen is suitable for gel formation and assay of collagenase.
Collagen is soluble in 0.075 M sodium citrate pH 3.7 and in dilute acetic acid 0.01 M to 0.5 M.
