Alpha elastin is fractionated from Elastin-Soluble (EPC No. ES12) by the coacervation method of Partrige et al. (1). In the method, the coacervated alpha elastin is separated from the soluble beta elastin at pH 4.7 and 50°C. Coacervation is repeated two times more in order to improve the purity of the alpha elastin fractions.
Alpha elastin has a molecular weight of 10-60 KD and runs as a smear on PAGE.
Alpha Elastin is a salt-free, lyophilized, water soluble powder.
