Prepared from Elastin (EPC No. E60) by labeling with the chromophore orcein by the method os Sachar et al. (11). It is used as substrate for determining units of specific activity of purified elastase and elastolytic activity of biological media. The particle size is 200 - 400 mesh. Soluble peptides absorb maximally at 570 nm.

This elastin is insoluble in biological buffers.
